With approximately 90% of the world's freight transported by sea, there are many types of shipping containers in circulation, each used for different purposes. A container is a sealed, rigid and reusable metal or aluminum crate used to contain goods that must be transported by ship, truck or train. The purpose of the container is to facilitate the transport of goods.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF CONTAINERS

“DRY” containers

In general, the most used containers are the “DRY”. These shipping containers are fully closed, protected from the elements by a roof, side walls and a rigid floor. Dry containers are the most common type of container and therefore are used to load most types of goods around the world.

“FLAT RACK” containers

This simple storage container features collapsible side walls that can be folded down to form a flat rack. With their collapsible sides, these containers are like simple storage shipping containers whose sides can be folded down to form a flat rack for shipping a wide variety of goods (heavy machinery, tracked vehicles, materials of construction…)

“OPEN TOP” containers

An “OPEN TOP” container also known as an open top container has a convertible top that can be completely removed. This type of container is ideal for oversized cargo that cannot easily be loaded through the door (tall machines or heavy and bulky products).

“ISO REEFER” containers

A REEFER ISO shipping container ”is used for shipping perishable and temperature sensitive goods, such as meat, fruits and vegetables. This type of container depends on an external energy source to ensure temperature regulation.

“TANK” containers

The “TANK” containers are made of resistant steel or other anticorrosive materials for the transport and protection of liquid material.

“DOUBLE DOOR” containers

Double door containers are extremely useful for quickly loading and unloading goods. They provide ample space for goods such as steel and metal.
